To protect public order during commemorative events through May 8- 9 to be engaged 40 thousand law enforcement officers

To ensure the protection of public order during the events on May 8 and 9 there will be engaged about 40 thousand law enforcement officers. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhii Yarovy told at a joint briefing with, acting chairman of Traffic Militia Department Olexandr Iershov and chief of main department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv Olexandr Tereschuk at the Government House.

Through May 8-9 it is expected participation of more than 1.5 million citizens in the commemorative events. Most of these will take place in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Lviv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi.

The actions of law enforcement officers will be coordinated by operational headquarters established in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

"For the protection of public order there will be engaged about 40 thousand personnel of law enforcement agencies. In addition, 1 thousand soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine and about 2 thousand public organization members will be involved ", said Serhii Yarovy. In particular, there will be increased traffic militia patrols, operational investigative groups, established mobile teams to monitor the situation.

Peculiar attention is paid to mass gatherings: underground, railway stations, bus stops. With this purpose there are additionally involved the staff of explosive-technical services, canine brigades to control the situation.

Olexandr Iershov informed, personnel of the traffic militia were instructed to conduct a thorough vehicle inspection to detect weapons and explosives, which may threaten life and health of citizens in Kyiv.

In the capital to protect the order alongside the law enforcement agencies will be also concerned citizens. About a thousand of these will be involved on a daily basis. Non-government security structures having appropriate licenses will also help to ensure the rule of law.

"All the tasks have been determined, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure the protection of public order during commemorative events on May 8 and 9", summed up Serhii Yarovy.
