Olexii Pavlenko: Projects implemented with the EBRD support are crucial for the development of agriculture
On Wednesday, May 6, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Oleksii Pavlenko met with the EBRD
Vice President responsible for policy and partnership Philippe Le Houerou. The meeting was held within the framework of a Private
Sector Forum on food security in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region,
which took place through May 5-6 in Barcelona (Spain).
The projects
implemented in Ukraine with the financial support of the EBRD, are important
for the development of domestic agriculture. In 2014 the enterprises of
agrarian sector were granted loans worth USD 251 million.
Oleksii Pavlenko noted that
the development of dynamic, competitive, and inclusive agricultural sector is
the key to the global food security and that of the Mediterranean region in
particular.
Also, the parties
discussed the prospects of holding in the main EBRD office in London a
conference to support the agricultural sector of Ukraine. The previous meeting
with the EBRD leadership in London in March of 2015 had laid the foundation for
new investment projects.
