Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Ukraine is the winner in the Second World War
"An objective for the Ukrainian country is to honour each person, to
demonstrate historical justice of what happened 70 years ago and to prevent
repetition of such tragic and horrible events that occurred in the last
century", stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a
session of the Organizing Committee on preparation and celebration in 2015 of
the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th anniversary
of the end of the Second World War on Thursday, April 16.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk accentuated that the 70-th anniversary of the victory
over Nazism in Europe is marked at a time when the Russian Federation
unleashed military aggression against Ukraine: "It is a dramatic turn in
history. 70 years ago we were fighting shoulder to shoulder against the
Nazis, and were fighting and have won. And now the Russian Federation, which
together with Ukraine won in the Second World War, unleashed a military
aggression against the Ukrainian state". According to the Prime Minister, celebrating the 70th anniversary of
victory over Nazism "is not just historical but also very
symbolic." He stressed that human and material losses of Ukraine
during WWII is 40% of the total loss of the former Soviet Union. The
population of Ukraine after the Second World War declined by 14 million. "Attempts of the Russian Federation to rewrite history, to
appropriate the victory in World War II and appropriate this sacred and
historic struggle over Nazism, should be suppressed. Ukraine is a winner
country in the Second World War. Ukraine is the founder of the United
Nations", urged Arseniy Yatsenyuk. The Prime Minister stressed the need to celebrate 70 anniversary of the
victory over Nazism on a decent level and "to honour each veteran of the
Second World War, everyone who was fighting": "The objective for
the Ukrainian country is to honour each person, to demonstrate historical
justice of what happened 70 years ago and to prevent repetition of such
tragic and horrible events that occurred in the last century". Apart from that, Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded previous week the Ukrainian
Parliament passed a package of laws, which, in particular, envisages access
to the archives of the Communist totalitarian regime and regulates the legal
status and honouring participants of fight for independence of Ukraine in the
twentieth century. Two draft laws in this package were submitted by the
Government of Ukraine: "This is a significant step to redress historical
injustices. We expect these laws will come in effect and this historic
package will fully be implemented, justice will be established in our
struggle against Nazism”. |
