U.S. delegation expressed satisfaction with cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine
On April 9, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen
Avakov, First Deputy Interior Minister Eka Zguladze and Deputy Minister
of Internal Affairs on European integration Tigran Avakian met with a delegation of the United States of
America led by Senator Robert Portman.
During the meeting the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation to
improve professional training of employees of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine,
as well as the combat readiness of units of the National Guard of Ukraine in terms
of the need to counter activity of illegal armed groups in eastern Ukraine.
Arsen Avakov expressed gratitude
to the U.S. Government and the Senate for their support in reforming the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Also during the meeting, the Minister
discussed with Senator Robert Portman the issues of joint exercise of law
enforcement agencies of the two countries. Apart from that, participants of the
event considered an opportunity to provide Ukraine with weapons as well as
possible assistance to the displaced persons.
Members of the U.S. team positively assessed the state of cooperation
with the Ukrainian side, in particular in the sphere of activity of the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and confirmed their readiness to prolong
bilateral relations.
