Arseniy Yatsenyuk: Government awaits a positive resolution at today's meeting of IMF Board of Directors

The IMF assistance is a key to ensure economic growth, increasing revenues of the State Budget, which will provide an opportunity to reconsider the social standards and improve them, create new jobs, stabilize the economy, reinforce export performance and to settle the exchange rate, said the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a Government meeting on Wednesday, March 11.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded that in a few hours Washington would host a meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund and an issue of granting financial assistance to Ukraine would be raised, "Ukraine has signed with the IMF a comprehensive and wide-ranging reform programme. All the preliminary activities under this program have been executed by the Ukrainian Government, the Parliament and approved by the President”.

"We are looking forward to a positive resolution of the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund", stressed the Head of Government.

The program with the IMF is designed for four years and provides funding worth 25 billion dollars, he explained.

"Unfortunately, the money can't be spent on social benefits, pensions and salaries. The money cannot be applied directly to the improvement of living standards. But these money appear the pledge of growth of the Ukrainian economy, we will up the revenues of the State Budget, and it will give us a chance to review the social standards towards improvement, create new jobs, stabilize the economy, reinforce export performance, to settle the exchange rate, that has been partially stabilized - and to gradually restore boost of the country's economy", stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

The Prime Minister promised that the Ukrainian Government would inform about the outcomes of the IMF Board’s meeting immediately upon its completion.

"This is one of the essential economic and financial issues that concerns the whole world, it is to help Ukraine to survive under conditions of the Russian military aggression and to do everything for Ukraine to become part of the European Union, to overcome the toughest military, financial, economic and social challenges, we are facing these days," added Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
