PM: Ukraine hopes to increase the volume of reverse gas supplies from EU to 14 bcm

"If last year Ukraine could get eight to ten billion cubic meters of gas via reverse flow, then in the current year we hope to increase this volume to 14 billion cubic meters", the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed at a briefing following the meeting with the Head of the Government of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico and negotiations of the governmental delegations of Ukraine and Slovakia on Friday, 6 February.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine has reminded that his previous meeting with Robert Fico happened during the launching ceremony of the pipeline "Vojani-Uzhgorod" in the town of Velke Kapusany in Slovakia.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has informed that in January 2015 Ukraine purchased more gas in Slovakia than in Russia. The total volume of gas supply for the month was 1 billion cubic meters.

The Prime Minister has also underlined that the current cost of gas that Ukraine buys from Slovak partners and Europe, is lower than the cost of gas, which she receives from the Russian Federation.

However, the Head of Government has emphasized the need not only to increase the volume of reverse flow, "but, in general, to change the energy map of Europe". He has recalled that Ukraine decided to give European and American companies access to the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
