Volodymyr Demchyshyn confirms the willingness to cooperate with Anti-Corruption Committee

During a meeting with the Anti-Corruption Committee members which took place on January 12 at the premises of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn focused on a number of issues including coal deliveries to Ukraine, the terms of concluding the contracts by the state-owned company Ukrinterenerho and a possibility to make them public.

The Minister backed an initiative of the deputies concerning the need to ensure openness in the work of the Ministry and strengthen control over the use of public funds aimed at preventing and combating corruption in the energy sector. In particular, according to him, the Ministry introduces public tenders for the sale of petroleum products, takes measures to remove subsidies and benefits for commercial structures. "The Ministry cannot require the disclosure of commercial contracts. Making such information public shall be conducted by agreement of the parties to the contract in accordance with the current legislation", said Volodymyr Demchyshyn.

Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn stressed that Ukraine today lacks coal to ensure the TPP in connection with the war in the East of the country, so it is necessary to import coal. To diversify coal supply ways, he said, we seek reliable business partners abroad, with the main attention paid at the conclusion of contracts to compliance of the quality and price of the proposed coal.

The Minister also agreed to an offer of the deputies to join action to save energy, regulate tariffs for energy supply and prevent corruption.
