For
the first time in five years, the authorities
and the public are preparing joint events aimed at commemorating millions of victims of the Famine-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. National memorable events of November 22, 2014 will be held under the motto
"Our freedom was
killing by hunger. The unsubdued in
1933 - the undefeated today!"
A
briefing held on 17 November at the Government House has been dedicated to the issue of
preparation for the Holodomor Memorial Day. The event was attended by members of a joint organizing committee, including Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyschuk, Director of the Ukrainian National Memorial Institute Volodymyr Viatrovych, researcher of the Holodomor, executive secretary of the Public Committee for the Commemoration of the Victims of the Genocide of 1932 -33 in Ukraine Olesia Stasiuk, volunteer of the Public Committee, coordinator of the Euromaidan’s Public Sector Olena Podobed-Frankivska.
The
participants of the briefing have stressed that Ukraine annually marks a Holodomor memorial
day on the fourth Saturday of November. In 2014, the Holodomor Remembrance Day will take place on 22 November.
