Declaration of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe on separatist tension in Ukraine and neighboring countries
On
October 16, 2014,
in the framework of the 27th October session, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe held a debate on "separatist tensions in Ukraine and neighboring countries."
During
the discussions,
the majority of delegates expressed support for Ukraine, its territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, and condemned the actions of the Russian Federation.
As
a result of the debate the Congress has adopted a declaration, which officially recognizes military intervention of the Russian Federation into the events in Ukraine. "The Congress condemns Russia’s military intervention in the east of
Ukraine, and condemns all forms of pressure by Russia on its neighbours," the text states.
"The security of this continent is
seriously threatened by the Russian Federation’s repeated failure to comply
with international rules and the principles and values of the Council of Europe
that it signed up to when it joined the Organisation,"
the declaration
notes.
The
bodies of the Council of
Europe consistently support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemn Russian aggression against our country.
