Pavlo Klimkin and Karel De Gucht consider unacceptable to make changes to the Association Agreement on demand of the third party

On October 9, in the framework of a working visit to Brussels Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin held a bilateral meeting with the EU Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht.

The interlocutors exchanged with views on future steps of the parties to adhere to the understandings reached during the tripartite meeting among Ukraine, the EU and Russia at the ministerial level dedicated to considering the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which took place on September 12.

In this regard the Minister stressed that the Ukrainian side is ready to prolong the constructive tripartite dialog aimed at seeking the ways to settle problem issues to ensure realization of the Agreement, notably to eliminate the concerns of the Russian party.

Pavlo Klimkin expressed belief that the trade provisions of the Plan of implementation of the Association Agreement, that had been approved by the Government, will be executed in compliance with the relevant principles of provisional application of the document.

Moreover, the interlocutors discussed the state of preparation of a legislative proposition of the EU to prolong by the end of 2015 the effect of the autonomous trade preference regime for Ukraine’s origin goods and also steps to provide additional support of Ukrainian export potential by the EU.  

Pavlo Klimkin and Karel De Gucht reaffirmed their common position that making changes to the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on the demand of the third party appears unacceptable.
