PM appeals to UN Secretary-General to assist in overcoming the consequences of Russian aggression

On Thursday, September 25, in the framework of the working visit to the United States, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The Prime Minister has noted that the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions remains tense. The Russian side continues to violate a ceasefire regime. The PM is deeply concerned about violations of human rights in Crimea, about the persecution of Crimean Tatars made by the Russian illegal authorities.

In this context, Arseniy Yatsenyuk has called upon the Secretary-General to use all instruments of the UN so as to stop Russian aggression as well as to overcome its outcome. It is, in particular, about the potential of the UN regarding the release of hostages, including illegally detained by Russian authorities Nadiia Savchenko and Oleg Sentsov.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine has also agreed with the Secretary-General about the active use of the UN structures in solving the problems of people who through Russian aggression have been forced to leave their homes.

Ban Ki-moon has confirmed the active role of the UN in a scheduled international donor conference, the key issue of which will be the restoration of Donbas.
