Introductory statement by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on September 5, 2014

Today we have a number of pressing issues that are to be considered by the Government of Ukraine. But I would like to start with what is now being discussed by the entire world, within the Ukrainian society. It is peace.

There are no arguments or doubts that Ukraine needs peace. Peace must be attained. But the question is, at what cost. We have paid too much in this war, unleashed by Russia. It is impossible to calculate casualties, they have no value. These are the lives of people who were fighting and are still fighting for our independence, for our country

Thus, peace must be reinstated but not grounded on the plan of the Russian president, but on the Ukrainian one, which should be backed by the U.S.A. and the EU. We will fail to overcome Russia alone, as they deceive.

Therefore, peace should be reinstated, and for the start there should be three basic points:

1. ceasefire;

2. withdrawal of the Russian army and Russian gangsters and terrorists;

3. regaining control over the border.

Just the border that should be developed. And now the Government will tackle the project of development of the Ukrainian-Russian state border, which we called The Wall.

I just want to repeat once again, peace should be reinstated not on the basis of the plan offered by Russia, but of the plan by Ukrainian President, which should be supported by the U.S. and the EU, as our true allies. We need guarantees. And such guarantees can be obtained, if we act in unity and concert, the way we used to act with our western partners.

Today the Government will take a decision on approval of the project of development of our state frontier.
