Arseniy Yatsenyuk: To attain peace we need three points: ceasefire, withdrawal of the Russian army, The Wall project

“Peace must be reinstated but not grounded on the plan of the Russian president, but on the Ukrainian one, which should be backed by the U.S.A. and the EU,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced during a Government meeting on Friday, September 5.

The Head of Government stressed that there are "no arguments or doubts that Ukraine needs peace": "Peace must be attained. But the question is, at what cost. We have paid too much in this war, unleashed by Russia. It is impossible to calculate casualties, they have no value. These are the lives of people who were fighting and are still fighting for our independence, for our country".

According to him, peace should be reinstated, but not on the basis of the plan offered by the Russian President, but on the basis of the Ukrainian plan, under support of the U.S. and the EU, "being our true allies”:" We need guarantees. And such guarantees can be obtained, if we act in unity and concert, as we used to act with our western partners."

To attain peace, he emphasized, we need “three principal points”: “The first is ceasefire, the second – withdrawal of the Russian army, Russian bandits and terrorists. The third - regaining control over the border”.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that today's meeting of the Government will be devoted to considering the project of development of the Ukrainian-Russian state border, which was called The Wall.

The PM stressed that it is a security issue not only for Ukraine, but also an issue of European security, "as, in fact, it means maintenance of the eastern border of Europe". Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that The Wall project will make it impossible to cross the state border of Ukraine from the side of the Russian Federation, will ensure the safety of the eastern border of the European Union and Europe in general and that of Ukraine.

"We realize that this is a costly project, and that is why, in the framework of the donor conference and cooperation with the European Union, after this project is approved we will appeal for financial and technical assistance to ensure implementation of this project," he explained and added the Government possesses necessary funds for the initial stage.  

Moreover, Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that exceptionally Ukrainian goods will be used in this project, "of exclusively Ukrainian origin": "To participate in the project, we will attract a lot of people who are capable to work, earn a wage, and, thus, we will increase employment."
