Ukrzaliznytsya's Director General participates in meeting of working group for construction of broad-gauge rail line to Vienna
The delegation of Ukrzaliznytsya led by the Director General of Ukrzaliznytsya Borys
Ostapjuk participated in the meeting of the working
group for the construction of a broad-gauge railway to Europe, which took place
in Vienna (Austria), on August 14, 2014.
The Director General of Ukrzaliznytsya Borys Ostapjuk became the
participant of the working group based on voting from the Ukrainian shareholder
– the State Property Fund of Ukraine. Now it concerns elaboration of a
feasibility study for the project, a business plan, calculation of volumes of
the freight along each separate route.
Further Ukraine's participation in the project
of construction of the 1520 mm broad gauge track to
Europe is vital for the future development of the transit potential of
Ukraine's railways. In particular, the implementation of the project until 2050
will increase the volume of transport up to 16 million tons annually. This was
discussed at the general meeting of shareholders for the construction of a
railway 1520 mm gauge track Kosice - Bratislava - Vienna, held on 14 August
2014, in Vienna (Austria).
It should be noted that on the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of
Ukraine of December 16, 2009 "Issues of participation of Ukraine in the project
for the construction of a railway track and direct railway communication in the
direction Chop (Pavlovo) - Kosice - Bratislava -
Vienna" in December 2013, the State Property Fund of Ukraine has acquired
a 25% ownership interest in the share capital of the company "Breitspur Planungsgesellschaft
mbH".
