Today, the corresponding decision has been taken by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. MPs voted for the amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Militia" regarding the right of militia workers to use physical force, special means and weapons in the area of the antiterrorist operation.

The Law supplements Article 12 of the Law "On Militia" with a text concerning the right of militia workers to use physical force, special means and weapons in the area of the anti-terrorist operation without notice. Moreover, Article 15 establishes that the militia workers use weapons in the area of the anti-terrorist operation not only as a last resort.

Changes to the legislation are caused by the need to improve the safety of police officers during anti-terrorist operations and more efficient performance of their task as to neutralization of terrorists during the ATO.
