Olexandr Sych met in Geneva with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres
In
Switzerland, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Sych met with UN Deputy Secretary-General, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres.
During
the meeting they
discussed the
issues on the necessary measures designed to protect citizens living in regions of Ukraine with the complex political situation, particularly with regard to assist internally displaced persons.
The
Vice Prime Minister on behalf of the Government of Ukraine thanked the UN representative for assistance to Ukraine from the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees. "A proper accounting system and registration of displaced persons shall prevent the spread of Russian myths about "hundreds of thousands of refugees", who are allegedly leaving the
territory of Ukraine. We know the value of information manipulations of Russia, but we want it to be understood in the world", emphasized the Head of the Ukrainian delegation.
In
his turn, Antonio Guterres noted non-critical scale displacement of
people not only from Ukraine to Russia, but also within Ukraine. "The issue is not the
number of people, but a clear strategy for dealing with such persons as well as ensuring their needs", said the High Commissioner.
In conclusion, the Vice Prime Minister assured Antonio Guterres in implementing by our state of most of the recommendations of the High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as Ukraine's readiness to continue to be guided by them in the interests of stabilizing the current situation in our country and protecting the inherent rights of the citizens.
