Arseniy Yatsenyuk: It is far from a gas issue, but the plan of Russia how to destroy Ukraine

Behavior demonstrated by the representatives of Russian Gazprom company during yesterday’s negotiations “appears a part of the designed plan which started from annexation of Crimea, terrorists in Donbas, weapon deliveries from Russia and transporting of Russian bandits to the territory of Ukraine,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized at the Governmental session on Monday, June 16.

“Gas aggression, economic pressure, resulting from today’s decision of Russia to ban import of Ukrainian agrarian goods to the territory of Russia, financial pressure. And the topmost – collapse of any peaceful process,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized.

Referring to yesterday’s negotiations he accentuated a common position of the European Union, European Commission and Ukraine in gas issue: “Ukraine has agreed to all compromise proposals elaborated by our European partners. As we, unlike Russia, realize the responsibility for the energy security of Ukraine and the European Union”.

However, Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed, the Russian side “rejected any proposals which were based on the exceptionally market principle and had no any discriminatory or politically grounded requirements, put forward by Russia”.

He reminded Ukraine had paid off to the Russian side the sum which is considered undisputed in relations between Naftogaz and Gazprom and is worth USD 786 million – calculated USD 268 per 1 thousand cubic meters of gas fixed in the first quarter of the current year: “We were ready to conduct further calculations on condition of signing a deal and approving a decision on future relations between Ukraine and Russia in gas issue”.

“But it doesn’t mean gas. It is a general plan of Russia how to destroy Ukraine. It is one more stage of Russian aggression directed against Ukrainian state and Ukraine’s independency,” he emphasized.

According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the intention of Russia was completely understandable: “To announce that the temporary price has grown from USD 268 to almost USD 500, and then to fix USD 385. And in November-December the Russian Government would have to announce: we have changed our mind. The plan is clear, understandable, they have been prepared for that and temporized in order to wait till winter and put us in the situation they have used to put Ukraine for two times already. It won’t happen for the third time,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.

“We aren’t going to subsidize Russian Gazprom. The Ukrainian citizens won’t take out of their pockets USD 5 billion a year to enable Russia to buy for this money weapon, tanks, planes targeting to bomb Ukrainian territories,” Arseniy Yatsenyuk urged.

“We have demonstrated to the entire world: we were ready for a compromise. The compromise elaborated by the European Commission and Ukraine was rejected by Russia on exceptionally political reasons. Everything suggested by us wasn’t just market, but profitable including for the Russian Gazprom,” the Head of Government stressed.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that he would make a report on this issue in the Parliament of Ukraine on June 17.
