Olexandr Sych initiates setting up Film and Television Coordination Council

The main strategic task for Ukrainian film industry appears designing of a development concept for film industry aimed at creating of genuine national film production. The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Sych announced during a meeting he chaired to consider development of film industry in Ukraine.

In the course of the meeting the Culture Minister Yevhen Nishchuk assured the attendees the Government is ready to provide overall state support to the representatives of the branch. “The Culture Ministry will initiate changes which are to assist the national film studios in obtaining an opportunity to direct funding for their own development, those received from renting of their property, and exempt the national culture product from VAT taxation,” the top official explained.  

Members of the branch stressed the need to launch independent financing of the area, development of normative basis, upgrade of the status of national film industry enterprises aimed at attracting independent financing and ensuring successful competition for the investments with the private market players and, also, a broader dialog with spectators, response to their demands and cultural needs.

In turn the Vice Prime Minister backed an idea by the expert community to set up a council to deal with the issues of film industry development and to unite representatives of both film industry and television. “I am ready to chair such coordination council in order to ensure transparent, innovational approaches to solving cadre, financial and strategic issues of the area. Investing into film industry means powerful investment into change of public awareness on national values’ grounds,” Olexandr Sych summed up.
