Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Sych met with Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Sych has had a working meeting with the Ambassador of Canada Troy Lulashnyk.

In the course of a meeting the interlocutors discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Canada in overcoming current crisis phenomena in Ukraine and carrying out perspective structural reforms and development of democracy.

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed deep gratitude to Canada for the effective support of Ukrainian state and the society. “In the difficult time we are facing we especially highly evaluate the assistance by Canada, the support of Ukraine on the world arena, those warm and fruitful relations not only between the states but interpersonal relations as well. Canada has always been friendly with Ukrainians for whom it has become home, and to the whole Ukrainian state,” Olexandr Sych stressed.

In turn the Ambassador of Canada in Ukraine expressed overall support to the democratic transformations in Ukraine and concern with the difficult situation within the country, caused by the foreign aggression: “We have clearly expressed condemnation of the Russian actions, we realize that the Russian aggression is the problem we have to overcome all together. Presently Canada considers various possibilities to render to Ukraine the economic, political, technical assistance.”

The parties paid peculiar attention to the discussion of information security, ethno-national policy and educational development. “Approving in the second reading of the Law On the higher education which is being finalized in the Verkhovna Rada, will afford to finally deprive of the totalitarian model of higher school management according to which the country conducted total control over the higher educational institutions. The new law renders to the higher educational institutions maxima autonomy in the issues of administration, financing, elaboration of educational plans, student and academic self-government. We consider the experience of Canada educationalists will be advantageous for us in the course of upgrading of the education system,” Olexandr Sych stressed.  

The Ambassador of Canada highly assessed the steps made by the Government in ethno-national and educational policy and suggested to deepen cooperation in humanitarian area and discuss concrete cooperation steps. “We are ready to render overall support to Ukraine on the way towards stable development and prosperity,” Troy Lulashnyk summed up.
