Arseniy Yatsenyuk addresses Prosecutor General with a request to stir up investigation on misappropriation of funds in coal industry

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has addressed the Prosecutor General with a request to stir up an investigation on embezzlement of funds in the coal industry. He announced during An Hour to the Government at the Parliament on Friday, April 18. 

He reminded that the cases on tenders, notably in the coal area, were investigated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As the largest number of relevant criminal cases falls under the first and second category of state servicemen, which is investigated exceptionally by the Prosecutor General, Arseniy Yatsenyuk addressed the Prosecutor General of Ukraine with the abovementioned request concerning the coal industry “where the volumes of embezzlement equal hundreds millions”.

Moreover, he reminded that the Government had adopted an order on introducing an electronic tender system to implement all court decisions.   

According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, earlier the arrested property “was sold only through five companies, every person had to pay 15% from its cost, and in addition this property was sold at reduced prices”: “This scheme has been broken and now we are transferring everyone on the transparent electronic tenders with regards to the state property sales”.  

Arseniy Yatsenyuk explains this initiative of the Government undergoes “an incredible resistance”: “As overall volume of realization of the arrested property amounts UAH 16 billion. Five firms received 15% from the UAH 16 billion. The arithmetic is rather simple – UAH 2 billion were taken away from the pockets of the corrupt officials and returned to the people”.  

Apart from that, the Head of the Government expressed hope that the state procurement law having been approved by the Parliament would be published the next day.
