Minister of Economic
Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavlo Sheremeta has met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands
to Ukraine Kees Klompenhouwer, the parties discussed ways for expanding economic
cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister noted the
importance for Ukraine
economic cooperation with the Netherlands,
one of the main foreign trade partners of Ukraine
in Europe.
Pavlo Sheremeta stressed that the Ukrainian side is interested in
expanding the technical and investment cooperation with the Netherlands, especially in the
energy sector. Ukraine
looks forward to fruitful cooperation with the Shell in the gas sector.
By turn, Kees Klompenhouwer said that he appreciates
the desire of the Government of Ukraine to implement reforms aimed at
simplifying business in Ukraine
and attracting investment. According to him, the signing by Ukraine an agreement with the International
Monetary Fund will help to increase inflow of foreign investment into the
Ukrainian economy including from the Netherlands.
"This investment
will help the private sector to feel itself safety from a legal point of view.
Thus the Netherlands are
positively tuned to investment in Ukraine," the Ambassador said.
He also assured that
the investment in the Ukraine
is largely dependent on the success of the reform of the judiciary and tax
systems, as well as measures to ensure the protection of property rights.
According to Pavlo Sheremeta, the opening of
the European markets for Ukrainian products would enhance economic cooperation
between Ukraine and the Netherlands.
The issue of the development of new markets is extremely important for Ukraine
in the conditions of necessity of reorientation of the Ukrainian export.
Kees Klompenhouwer noted that the Netherlands
are ready to offer Ukraine
technical assistance in creating a clear and effective system of export
promotion, as they have considerable experience in this area.
The parties agreed on
the need to create a "roadmap" for the development and modernization
of various sectors of the Ukrainian economy, and a clear plan for its
implementation.
Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ukraine announced that Dutch
investors are interested in investing in Ukrainian agriculture. Currently,
meetings are being held in the regions of Ukraine, to discuss possible ways
of cooperation.
Other promising areas
of investment are energy, energy efficiency, industry and water supply.
