Arsen Avakov: The Interior Ministry continues to seize unregistered firearms

The Interior Ministry intends to complete an inventory of firearms till March 26, because already today there is the lack of weapons, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said at a press conference at the Government House on March 19.

"In order to ascertain the actual number of lost firearms, we are making inventory of weapons, ammunition and special equipment ... We'll have the results of the inventory before March 26," the Minister noted, adding that the availability of illegal weapons has a significant impact on the crime situation in the country.

According to Arsen Avakov only in the Lviv region the shortage of pistols is about 638 items, of Kalashnikovs - 43, rifles – 6 and live cartridges - about 3 thousand.

"We have taken rough measures to curb illegal firearms and to confiscate them," said the Minister.

He reiterated that from 1 to 21 March the Interior Ministry is carrying out national measures for voluntary surrender of weapons by population. “People have already laid down over 858 unregistered firearms”, he added.
