On Thursday,
March 13, the Government of Ukraine submitted to the European Court of Human
Rights a request to apply to the government of the Russian Federation interim
measures pursuant to Rule 39 of the ECHR. Besides, the Government of Ukraine submitted
an inter-state application which contained facts of violating the rights
guaranteed under the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights
and Fundamental Freedoms and the Protocols to it, in connection with the ongoing
military occupation and control of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Russian
Federation. According to the Justice Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko, the abovementioned ECHR decision is crucial for Ukraine as now not only the world political circles but the international judicial institutions take as brutal the violations of fundamental human rights on the territory of Ukraine by Russia. Besides,
the Minister stressed the European Court of Human Rights had taken the relevant
decision in maximally brief terms – the application had been submitted the day
before the Court published the respective decision on its website. It should
be mentioned in the facts contained in the application the Ukrainian Party emphasized
that starting from February 27, 2014 certain armed groups led and controlled
by the Russian Federation had seized buildings of the Crimean Parliament, the
Council of Ministers and commenced seizure of other administrative and military
facilities on the Crimean peninsula. |
