MFA of Ukraine presents note to Russian Federation on approval of Declaration of Crimea's independence

March 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has summoned the charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Ukraine A. Vorobyova, which was presented a note of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine in connection with the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry of March 11 on approval of the Declaration of Independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

In particular, the note stresses that the Ukrainian side considers the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry as a direct and undisguised interference of Russia into internal affairs of Ukraine, which is contrary to the fundamental norms of international law and the generally recognized principles of coexistence of states. The statement of the MFA of Russia not only flagrantly violate the requirements of paragraph 7 of Article 2 of the UN Charter, which recognized the prohibition "to intervene in matters, which belong to the national jurisdiction of any State", but also Articles 2, 3, 4, 6 and 11 of the Treaty of Amity, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation of 31 May 1997.

Ukrainian side disagrees with the assessment of the Russian Foreign Ministry that the decision of the Crimean parliament is "completely legitimate."
