Joint statement by Chief of Security Service of Ukraine Olexandr Yakymenko and Minister of Internal Affairs Vitaliy Zakharchenko

Extremists from the opposition have crossed the line – they are killing simple innocent people in the streets of Ukraine’s capital, abusing women, burning and blowing up buildings and cars. There is chaos started in Kyiv. At this the opposition leaders appear producers of these crimes. Their goal is the only: even at the cost of people’s blood to gain the rulers’ chairs.

We cannot afford further escalation of the conflict. Simple citizens address the authorities with the demands to establish order, return stability and peace in Ukraine.

We urge the opposition leaders to immediately calm the protesters, stop armed confrontations and sit back round the negotiation table.

We warn hot irresponsible heads of the opposition – the authorities possess the forces capable to establish order. And in case the chaos continues, we will be forced to betake tough actions. We must give the producers an hour sharp. Unless the riot stops by 6:00 p.m., we will be obliged to establish order by all means within the legislation.
