Agreement on organization and holding of the Sixth session of Meeting of the Parties to the Espoo Convention signed February 12 in Geneva

On February 12, 2014, in Geneva, the Swiss Confederation, on an invitation of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Sven Alkalaj, the Minister of Environment and Nature Resources of Ukraine Oleh Proskuryakov and Mr. S. Alkalaj signed the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the UNECE about organization and holding of the Sixth session of Meeting of Parties to the Espoo Convention on assess of the environmental impact across boundaries and the Second Meeting of the Parties to the Convention that will act as the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment to the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context, as well as preparatory meetings on June 1-5, 2014.

The Meeting of the Parties is not just the ceremony, but gathering which results into elaboration of a coordinated political will of the leading world countries with directing efforts to preserving the surrounding environment.

 During the meeting the high representatives discussed issues joined with preparing to holding of the significant event for the country and the whole UNECE region.

It should be noted, on February 10, 2014, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved an order On signing the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the UNECE about organization and holding of the Sixth Meeting of Parties to the Espoo Convention on the environmental assessment in a transboundary context.
