“The Government has allotted to the Sumy regional state administration from the reserve fund of the state budget UAH 100 thousand to each family and UAH 50 thousand to every victim of the accident in Sumy, where on February 4 there occurred a collision of Vorozhba-Vyry route bus and Kharkiv-Vorozhba electric train. Such decision has been approved during the session of the Cabinet of Ministers today,” the Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Vilkul said.

It should be reminded that on February 4, around 15:00 there occurred a collision of Vorozhba-Vyry route bus and Kharkiv-Vorozhba electric train. As a result of this tragedy 12 people died including one child. Another 6 victims including one child are in the hospital. All of them are passengers of the route bus. The driver is detained and pretrial investigation is on.

All the victims received necessary medical assistance. 5 women victims were brought to Sumy regional hospital and undergo treatment. One more victim – a 15-year-old boy was brought to a children’s regional hospital. Now his state is satisfactory.

On the data of the State Emergency Service in Sumy region during the accident there were 19 people (18 passengers and a driver) in the route bus and 163 people in the train. The passengers of the train weren’t injured. All of them were transported to Vorozhba by another electric train at 16:10.

On the information of the leaders of the Pivdennah railway there were not revealed any violations on the part of the electric train driver. He started an emergency braking as a response to the situation 50 meters before.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Sumy region the preliminary version of the reasons of the accident is that the driver of the route bus didn’t stop to the warning sound and light semaphore signal. According to the victims the passengers had warned the driver about the approaching train but he decided to jump the lights, which proves that principal stroke was caused to the rear of the vehicle.
