E. Stavytsky: Cessation of operation of at least one energy enterprise can have irreversible consequences for the whole country

During several recent days anonymous calls about mining of strategically significant energy and gas transporting objects and enterprises have become frequent. The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Eduard Stavytsky announced during a briefing at the House of Government.

In particular, on January 24 there was heard information about attempts to seize Rivne NPP. Yesterday there was informed about mining of DniproGES (Dnipro hydroelectric power station). On January 25, at 10:30 an attempt was made to take by force the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, despite the aired recently warnings in which radically determined citizens and international community were warned about the danger and consequences of capture of operational objects such as nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry.

 “During an attempt of seizure of the Ministry I have said resolutely to the radicals that I will no way afford disruptions in energy supply of the country that could lead to irreparable losses both for Ukraine and Europe. There is the line one cannot cross, as it is the question of energy safety of the whole country,” the Minister stated.

He warned about the responsibility for the conducted actions which are illegal, as they pose the threat to the lives of not only 46 mln Ukrainians but the European countries as well. At this E. Stavytsky reminded about the scale of Chornobyl catastrophe Ukraine felt till now. According to him, such a tragedy must not be repeated.

“I bindingly declare: I will not afford any interference in work of the energy domain. And taking the opportunity I inform all our strategic partners that the situation is controlled, all the objects operate in the normal mode and protected reliably,” the Minister stressed.

He informed that just after the attempt of seizure there had been called an urgent teleconference with participation of leaders of power generating enterprises who reported about flawless operation of nuclear power plants, hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants, enterprises of oil and gas complex and coal enterprises. Moreover, there was intensified protection of enterprises of the branch.

 “I address once again to stay calm and continue work in the planned regime,” E. Stavystky added. According to him, the Ministry issued order №68 of January 25, 2014 “Targeting to take additional measures to ensure the proper level of functioning of the enterprises of fuel and energy complex”.

“I address all media concerning the importance to objectively cover an attempt of seizure of the ministry and I stress once again to realize the consequences of making such illegal actions. I address the people aiming to make them understand all the danger of actions performed by certain radical persons who hide behind the very precious – the people of Ukraine,” the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry announced.

He emphasized that the united energy system of Ukraine with coming cold operated reliably, with sufficient reserves of capacity and fuel and provided with heating and light all 46 million citizens of Ukraine.

“Despite the strained situation in the country the top priority task of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine nowadays is fulfillment of the liability of the country to the people and a guarantee of flawless work of energy domain. Cessation of work of at least one power energy enterprise can have enormous negative consequences for the whole country,” E. Stavystky announced.
