October 24, 2018, Stepan Kubiv, First Deputy Prime Minister /Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine met with Gilbert Kaplan, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the priorities of trade and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, in particular, privatization as a tool for attracting investments.
"There are many small enterprises being already successfully privatized through the system of electronic auctions ProZorro. Sales. But I want to draw the attention of American business circles to large-scale privatization which is just beginning under the new rules. We offer energy companies, as well as large infrastructure and industrial enterprises to private investor", Stepan Kubiv emphasized.
Gilbert Kaplan emphasized that investing in Ukraine is one of the important vectors of American business. He also informed the Ukrainian side that in the end of October, the first official trade mission comprising of 12 large American companies will visit Ukraine to search interesting investment opportunities. They seek to find attractive investment opportunities, in particular, by taking on board privatization as one of the mechanisms.
The Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade placed a special emphasis on the fact that it will be the first certified trade mission to Ukraine and called on Ukrainian partners to do their best to ensure the best welcome to the American companies.
Apart from that, Stepan Kubiv and Gilbert Kaplan touched upon strengthening of cooperation between the American and Ukrainian chambers of commerce and other issues of trade and economic cooperation, first of all, the potential for replacing imported Russian goods in the Ukrainian market, in particular industrial goods, innovative products, etc.
