During his working visit to Berlin, German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, held a bilateral meeting with Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

German Galushchenko spoke about the state of the energy system and the measures taken to strengthen its resilience in the face of russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

During the meeting, the head of the Ministry of Energy stressed the need to increase the capacity of interconnectors between Ukraine and European countries to import up to 2-2.5 GW of electricity. Such reserves can be used to balance the power system in the event of a significant impact of hostile attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The parties also discussed cooperation in the gas sector, in particular increasing gas production. German Galushchenko noted the great interest of European traders in Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities, which already store over 2.4 billion cubic metres of foreign gas.

The meeting also touched upon the participation of German partners in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian energy sector.

German Galushchenko thanked Germany for its support and outlined the current needs of the energy sector.

Robert Habeck assured that Germany will continue to provide assistance to strengthen the resilience and flexibility of the energy system and to support Ukraine.
