Yulia Svyrydenko: Civilians released from russian captivity to receive UAH 50,000 in one-off assistance

Released Ukrainian civilians who were illegally deprived of liberty by russia will receive one-off assistance of UAH 50,000. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

An individual can submit an application to the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development. The application must include a certificate from the Joint Centre for the Search and Release of Prisoners of War and Persons Illegally Deprived of Liberty as a Result of Aggression against Ukraine.

“Civilians illegally deprived of liberty who have returned to Ukrainian territory independently must, in addition, provide a confirming document stating that the person has been recognised as a victim in criminal proceedings. This can be obtained from law enforcement authorities,” the Head of Government noted.

Furthermore, civilians released from russian captivity, regardless of whether the fact of deprivation of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine has been established, will receive basic necessities: food, hygiene products, seasonal clothing and footwear, as well as the right to free legal, medical, and social assistance.

“In addition, civilians released from captivity and family members of those in captivity, for whom the Commission has established the fact of deprivation of personal liberty as a result of armed aggression against Ukraine, are entitled to a one-off state payment of UAH 100,000 after release, as well as annual assistance in the same amount for each year spent in captivity. The right to receive annual assistance also extends to family members,” Yulia Svyrydenko said.

To date, nearly 12,000 such payments have already been made, totalling approximately UAH 1.2 billion, of which UAH 359 million is one-off assistance after release, and UAH 818.7 million is annual assistance.
