Yulia Svyrydenko: Government steps up preparations for spring floods
Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko convened a meeting on preparations for spring floods, with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, and Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to forecasts, flooding is expected to begin in the central regions as early as the end of March. The potential danger primarily concerns these regions. The situation may be more complicated in the Carpathian region and Odesa region.
Situation centers are operating in all regions. There is continuous information exchange between regional military administrations and the State Emergency Service, as well as round-the-clock monitoring of the hydrological situation.
The Head of Government instructed the State Emergency Service, together with the heads of regional military administrations, to stockpile the necessary equipment, fuel, and supplies for rapid response and elimination of possible consequences of flooding.
“We are also preparing a mechanism to support people and communities in the event of flooding. We are creating a commission to eliminate the consequences, assist victims, pay financial aid, in particular for the rehabilitation of children, and provide additional support to vulnerable groups,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
