Yulia Svyrydenko: Government will help Kyiv prepare housing stock for next winter

The Government will help Kyiv prepare its housing stock for next winter. As part of a pilot project, the capital’s high-rise residential buildings will be equipped with backup power sources. A corresponding resolution was adopted today at an off-site Government session. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to the Head of Government, the state will finance the purchase and installation of batteries, inverters, and generators to ensure the operation of elevators and engineering systems, as well as lighting in common areas.

The equipment will be purchased at the state’s expense. Residents will be responsible for operations: purchasing fuel, maintenance, and repairs.

Participation in the project is voluntary – the decision is made by the co-owners of apartment buildings.

“The resolution establishes the legal basis for implementing the program and simplifies the necessary permitting procedures for construction and land allocation,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the Kyiv City State Administration has 30 days to compile a list of buildings that meet the program’s criteria and determine the funding requirements. Following this, the Government will adopt a separate decision on the allocation of funds.

“The program for Kyiv will be implemented as a pilot project. We are studying the feasibility and possibilities of expanding it to other cities,” the Prime Minister noted.

The pilot project to equip Kyiv’s high-rise buildings with backup power systems is part of the regional Resilience Plans – a set of measures to prepare the power grid and housing and utilities sector for the upcoming heating season. The regional resilience plans were developed by the Government in collaboration with regional military administrations and local governments.
