Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Oksana Zholnovych met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset. During the dialogue, the parties discussed the main aspects of cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe in the field of social policy. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Maciej Janczak, Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine for European Integration Iryna Postolovska and others.
Oksana Zholnovych focused on the social challenges that Ukraine is facing due to the war. She stressed the importance of creating the proper conditions to engage as many people as possible in economic activity.
"It is extremely important for us to create conditions under which every citizen will have support and opportunities to recover, develop and contribute to a common future. We are sincerely grateful to the Council of Europe for its ongoing support of the social sector and partnership that contributes to the achievement of these important goals," said Minister of Social Policy Oksana Zholnovych. She also told about the results that the Ministry of Social Policy managed to achieve together with the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.
"We have updated the system of rehabilitation for people with disabilities, transformed approaches to social insurance and drafted a law that changes the philosophy of supporting people with disabilities. In addition, we have formed the basis of a social code, which is the foundation for reforming social policy. These projects demonstrate that the synergy of international experience and Ukrainian initiatives can bring tangible results," added Oksana Zholnovych.
Alain Berset praised the productive cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine in implementing relevant projects aimed at supporting vulnerable groups. He stressed the importance of strengthening social protection, especially in the face of the challenges Ukraine has faced in recent years. Special emphasis was placed on supporting the rights of veterans, military personnel and the implementation of projects to support children.
The Secretary General assured that the Council of Europe would continue to support Ukraine, especially in the issue of European integration and the adoption of additional provisions to the European Social Charter.
