Vitalii Koval discusses access for Ukrainian agricultural products to EU markets after 5 June with Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs
During a working visit to Denmark, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitalii Koval, met with Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre.
Vitalii Koval noted that Ukraine is addressing a crucial strategic issue – determining the trade rules with the EU that will apply after 5 June 2025. “We are preparing the future of Ukrainian agri-trade with the EU – starting today, in Copenhagen,” the Minister stressed.
In his view, it is vital for Ukraine to have clear and predictable conditions for bilateral trade with the European Union. Failing to establish these in time could severely impact the entire agricultural economy, affecting the five million Ukrainians working in agriculture who ensure food stability.
“Denmark is the country that will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 July. That’s why our delegation is here, to lay the groundwork for constructive dialogue, secure support, and build the foundation for the decisions Ukraine needs. We feel full understanding from the Danish government. They recognise that Ukrainian farmers are not a threat but a strength for Europe. Instead of barriers, we need to find points of synergy that unite us,” Vitalii Koval emphasised.
The Minister pointed out that he consistently articulates Ukraine’s clear position: there is a need to extend mutually beneficial trade conditions with the EU. This is critical for a sector that ensures food stability, feeding over 400 million people worldwide.
“Our international visits are not about formal protocols. They are about concrete work to ensure Ukrainian farmers can continue to freely sell their products on European markets. And we are continuing these efforts at the diplomatic level,” Vitalii Koval concluded.
