Poland is ready to provide expert and educational assistance to Ukraine and to continue active cooperation in the field of public health. This was discussed during a meeting between Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine, and Mariusz Gujski, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Medical University of Warsaw, Head of the Department of Public Health & Professor at the Chair of Public and Environmental Health of the Medical University of Warsaw.

“First of all, I would like to thank you and the entire Polish people for the support you have been providing us in all areas since the beginning of the full-scale war. Poland is a constant and reliable partner, ally and friend of Ukraine. Together we are fighting the enemy and holding the medical front. But we cannot put life on hold. Alongside the challenges of war, we need to address strategic tasks for the Ukrainian medical system. These include public health. In the past, the public health system was mainly based on a control function. Now, its philosophy should be prevention, information, and awareness. We are very interested in such cooperation with Poland,” said Viktor Liashko.

During the meeting, the participants discussed priorities for cooperation in the field of public health and medical education at all levels, as well as support for Ukraine’s European integration efforts in the form of expert assistance to bring Ukrainian regulations in line with European directives.

According to Professor Mariusz Gujski, public health spending can be seen as an investment. Particular attention should be paid to educational campaigns that enable people to get more truthful information about their own health. Prevention, early diagnosis and vaccination are also important areas. The Polish side is interested in further cooperation in the education of Ukrainian and Polish students at universities in the field of public health. In addition, part of this year’s Public Health Congress, which takes place in Warsaw every December, will be devoted to cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the medical field.
