    In Ukraine, the number of employees receiving the minimum wage is decreasing steadily. According to data from the State Statistics Service, in September, such workers accounted for 7.4% against 8.6% in September 2017. At the same time, the share of workers with the wage exceeding UAH 6,000, which is 1.5 times higher than the minimum, amounted to 5.1%. Wages of UAH 10,000 and more were paid in September to 26.8% full-time employees. A year ago, this showing was only 17.1%.

    Background

    The average nominal wage in Ukraine in September was UAH 9,042, which exceeds 2.4 times the minimum and 12.9% the showing of September 2017. Salaries higher than average were paid at industrial enterprises, especially in production of pharmaceuticals (UAH 16,400), oil refining (UAH 11,400) and smelting industry (UAH 11,200), transport, IT sector. Average salary in education sector exceeded the minimum almost twofold and amounted to UAH 7,176, while in medicine - UAH 5,730.

    According to the forecasts of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the average salary rate, as one of the landmarks of the economic development of Ukraine, should reach UAH 10,000. In the draft State Budget for 2019 the Cabinet of Ministers budgets a minimum salary worth UAH 4,170.
