More than 900 healthcare facilities damaged by occupiers fully or partially restored in Ukraine
Over more than two and a half years of full-scale war in Ukraine, 901 Ukrainian medical facilities have been fully and partially restored, including 551 fully restored and 350 partially restored. Most of the facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. These are primarily medical facilities in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as those that have suffered minor damage, including broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc.
Today, one of the state’s priorities is to provide Ukrainians with the necessary and high-quality medical services. To this end, the Ministry of Health and its partners are working to restore Ukraine’s medical infrastructure despite the war. Thus, the reconstruction and rebuilding of medical facilities continues, allowing doctors to work and patients to have unimpeded access to the necessary medical care. The reconstruction of medical facilities will continue.
The russian army is bombarding and destroying Ukrainian hospitals, outpatient clinics, maternity clinics, etc. on a daily basis. Despite international norms and the Geneva Conventions, it continues to bomb civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, and terrorise the civilian population.
Over the course of the full-scale war, russian shells and missiles have destroyed 226 medical facilities beyond repair. Another 1,685 medical facilities were damaged. The biggest damage was done to medical facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. It is currently impossible to obtain complete information on the extent of damage to hospitals in the temporarily occupied territories. The russians also damaged 231 ambulances, destroyed 263 and seized 125.
