On March 4, Denys Shmyhal held a press conference dedicated to one year of the Government's activities. The Prime Minister assured that the Government together with the President of Ukraine is taking stock of the situation with the rise in food and fuel prices and in case of unreasonable prices for the relevant groups of goods will take the necessary steps to stabilize them.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that there have been no product prices hike so far, although some prices for some groups of goods have risen due to seasonal factors and objective economic reasons. The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture is conducting a dialogue together with producers, trade networks to find tools to avoid possible shortages and, as a consequence, higher prices for food products.
"If we compare prices from year to year and month to month, there are objective reasons for certain product groups, we understand them and we know how to regulate them and it will be done shortly. The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture is currently doing this. At the same time, the Government does not plan to interfere in the market, set price restrictions, we will stimulate or support producers to increase demand where there is a deficit that causes a spike in prices", Denys Shmyhal said.
The Prime Minister also dwelled on the rise in fuel prices and expressed hope that the situation in the fuel market would be resolved in the near future. The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture is holding meetings with representatives of fuel supply and retail chains to identify the reasons for rising gasoline and diesel prices.
"If there are any conspiracies, if there are any shadow schemes in this market, all controlling bodies are instructed by the Cabinet of Ministers," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
The Prime Minister noted that the Government is in dialogue with representatives of the fuel networks. The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture in synergy with other agencies is working on increasing the transparency of the fuel market in Ukraine, wholesale supplies and imports. In addition, procedures have been launched to verify the legality of the operation of some fuel networks and stations.
