Government identifies principles of reasonable adaptation and universal design to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities

At a thematic meeting on social protection for persons with disabilities, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution drafted by the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine “On the Approval of Principles, Criteria, and Limits of Reasonable Adaptation and Universal Design.”

This will form the basis for the practical application of accessibility principles in various areas, from architecture and transport to services and workplaces.

The introduction of the principles of reasonable adaptation and universal design will have a positive impact on persons with disabilities, ensuring that they can exercise their rights and freedoms on an equal basis with others.

For individuals and legal entities, this innovation will contribute to the creation of an inclusive environment and greater involvement of persons with disabilities in public life. In addition, the project will help to implement modern international accessibility standards at the state level, promote European integration, and shape a positive international image of Ukraine.

The resolution defines the principles, criteria, and limits of reasonable adaptations, the principles and criteria of universal design, establishes a general approach to policy-making in this area, and outlines the limits of mandatory implementation of reasonable adaptations to ensure equal rights for people with disabilities.
