Government sets spending priorities amid limited funding

The Government has adopted a decision setting priorities for public spending amid a difficult public finance situation and delays in some of the planned international funding. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Sergii Koretskyi.

According to him, a portion of the international funding has not yet arrived, in particular because Ukraine has not managed to fulfill some of the commitments it made to international partners.

"In these circumstances, we continue to take tough anti-crisis measures to ensure what matters most: the needs of defense and our people," the Head of Government said.

The following will be funded first:

• defense needs;

• pensions and social payments;

• salaries of teachers, doctors, and other public sector employees.

Spending that is not a priority will be postponed. This includes, in particular, new construction, reconstruction, and major repairs, as well as urban improvement projects such as parks, squares, fountains, and repaving of sidewalks.

The Prime Minister urged local governments to likewise set priorities in their budgets and limit spending that is not currently essential.

"It is high time we stopped spending money on things that are not a priority," Sergii Koretskyi stressed.

For its part, the Government is doing everything necessary to meet its commitments and receive the planned international funding.

According to Sergii Koretskyi, this work is being carried out jointly with Parliament, and responsible work by deputies from all factions and groups is important.
