Government determines the specifics of the 2026–2027 academic year: start – September 1, finish – defined by educational institutions

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the duration and features of the academic year 2026–2027 in secondary schools under martial law. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko.  

“It will traditionally begin on September 1,” said the Head of Government. “Regional and Kyiv city military administrations, together with the founders of educational institutions, will determine how the school year will start in each community, taking into account the security situation in the region. This will allow communities to flexibly organize the educational process according to safety conditions, while ensuring continuity of learning.”  

The academic year will last until June 30, 2027, but the actual date of completion of studies, the last bell ceremony, and the length of summer holidays will be decided by the schools themselves. These will be determined by the pedagogical council, considering the security situation and the needs of participants in the educational process. Because of this, the dates of graduation and holidays may differ across schools.
