Government toughens control over drug prices

Department of Information and Public Communications of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, posted 14 January 2026 11:15

Medicines must be accessible to everyone, especially in cold homes due to russian shelling of the power grid and severe frosts. This was emphasized by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, the Government has instructed the Ministry of Health and the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection to tighten control over drug prices in pharmacy chains.

“If violations in the formation of markups are detected, the Government will respond by imposing penalties on business entities,” the Head of Government said.

For systematic monitoring, a list of medicines shall be determined, for which the Ministry of Health, together with the State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control, will continuously monitor prices in pharmacies. Based on the results of such monitoring, reports shall be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on a weekly basis.
