Government to provide support for farmers growing cotton
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has backed an initiative from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food to provide state support of UAH 10,000 per hectare for cotton cultivation in Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions. This was announced by Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
“The goal of this Ministry initiative is to transform cotton from an exotic crop into a strategic one. Given the climate in the south, the expertise of scientists, and the interest from farmers, this is achievable. We’re bringing cotton back to southern Ukraine,” said Vitalii Koval.
The implementation of the resolution includes:
- Creating jobs;
- Developing the textile, light, and processing industries;
- Reducing reliance on imports;
- Ensuring a stable supply of raw materials for the defence sector – from uniforms to gunpowder.
“This is a vital investment in the economy of the southern regions, which face the dangers of wartime every day. Cotton has every chance to become not just a new source of income but also a cornerstone of strategic resilience – agricultural, industrial, and defence-related. My thanks to government colleagues, parliamentarians, and everyone involved. We’re reviving strategic crops, strengthening the agricultural sector, and moving closer to victory together!” the Minister emphasised.
