As part of the Programme for Emergency Recovery between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Ukraine, municipal utilities in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kherson and Mykolaiv received 97 pieces of heavy machinery to improve services in the areas of transport, water supply and destruction waste management.
In addition, a significant number of power generators, pipes and other essential equipment will be provided to the utilities to restore basic services.
“Thanks to the grant agreements signed in early 2023 between the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine and JICA, Ukrainian cities have received much-needed assistance for their utilities. We continue our cooperation with the Government of Japan and JICA in the identified areas and hope to expand it in the future. We will make every effort to ensure that the assistance from the Japanese side is used in a transparent and accountable manner,” said Vasyl Shkurakov, Acting Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
The Grant Agreement for the Programme for Emergency Recovery between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Government of Ukraine was signed on 9 March 2023. It provides for a grant from the Government of Japan in the amount of JPY 22,440,000,000 (USD 172.75 million) for the implementation of the Programme for Emergency Recovery.
