Together with the Antonov Airlines and Windrose Airlines, Ukrposhta has launched a program of charter flights to the United States to ensure fast and uninterrupted delivery. As part of this program, the first aircraft An-124 "Ruslan" landed with parcels in New York today.
"Despite the quarantine and the crisis in the aviation industry, Ukrposhta continues to take care of its customers and improves the delivery of mail abroad. The United States is one of the key countries for Ukrainian exporters. And the new charter program, aimed at delivering postal items to America, will not only allow regular and convenient delivery of parcels overseas without interruptions and transits but also remove problems with their delay due to possible cancellations," said Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii.
As a result, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in March, global air passenger traffic fell sharply by 54%. Due to the pandemic and the crisis, it is now 71% more difficult for export to reach the destination country. Therefore, Ukrposhta is expanding the number of partners to minimize the impact of the pandemic on delivery by Ukrainians abroad.
Only the first shipment of An-124 "Ruslan" with a cargo capacity of 650 m³ enabled Ukrposhta to convey 125 thousand postal items of Ukrainian small and medium business with one shipment. This is UAH 140 million in cash equivalent. In the future, in partnership with Windrose Airlines, the company will launch aircraft of various configurations on a weekly basis to satisfy the needs of Ukrainian exporters.
"Since the beginning of the quarantine, despite the canceled flights and closed borders, we have been looking for ways to deliver abroad to fulfill our obligations and support tens of thousands of Ukrainian export-oriented small and medium-sized businesses. And our business indicators show that all efforts bring results. Since the beginning of the year, we have transported export shipments weighing 3 million kg. Even considering the fact that the cost of delivery by air for us has increased 4 times, our customers hardly noticed that. The new charter program with regular flights will allow us to ensure reliable delivery of 75-80% of export shipments to the United States. And together with passenger airlines, we provide 100%," said Ihor Smilyanskyy, General Director of Ukrposhta.
It should be recalled that starting from November 1, 250 busiest Ukrposhta offices will work seven days a week. This will allow to expand customer service opportunities and significantly reduce queues at offices, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
