  • Ukraine as participant of IRENA: Successful presentation of the country and the development of cooperation with the authorities and business of the United Arab Emirates

    Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk expresses gratitude to all members of the Ukrainian delegation for the effective presentation of the country and the investment potential of its clean energy sector at the Ninth Session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

    This year, Ukraine participated for the first time in the election of the new IRENA Director-General, which was won by Italian official Francesco La Camera.

    "I want to note the vigor of the Embassy of Ukraine in the UAE and personally Ambassador Yurii Polurez in establishing close cooperation with IRENA experts, as well as line ministries and companies of the UAE", said Serhii Savchuk.

    As a result of the meetings held at IRENA, the following directions in activities were agreed:

    • Continue expert consultations with IRENA on stimulating the development of renewable energy;

    • Conduct in Ukraine a large-scale IRENA forum on the prospects of introducing green auctions;

    • Intensify cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Industry in the UAE to draw Arab companies to the Ukrainian market of green projects;

    • Develop opportunities for the participation of the Masdar energy company in investing in clean energy and garbage recycling projects in Ukraine.

    Moreover, Serhii Savchuk expressed gratitude to one of the strategic partners of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine – UNIDO/GEF UKR IEE Project "Introduction of Energy Management System Standard in Ukrainian Industry" – for the assistance in organizing a visit to the UAE.

    "So, I urge everybody to continue fruitful cooperation in improving legislation, attracting green investments and implementing projects in Ukrainian communities", summed up Serhii Savchuk.
