  • Ukraine and Japan discussed joint steps on nuclear disarmament in the international arena

    On October 26, 2020, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar met with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Takashi Kurai.

    The parties discussed the issue of nuclear disarmament, in particular, noted the common approach to the UN resolution entitled "Joint Courses of Action and Future-oriented Dialogue towards a world without nuclear weapons." The interlocutors agreed that the adoption of this resolution would be another step towards strengthening the efforts of the international community on the issue of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament, as well as control over the weapons of mass destruction.

    The Deputy Minister and the Ambassador noted the positive experience in cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and security, which is carried out within the framework of a memorandum between the defense agencies of Ukraine and Japan.

    Vasyl Bodnar and Takashi Kurai agreed to continue the practice of holding Ukrainian-Japanese consultations in the field of combating cyber threats, as well as to strengthen cooperation in the defense and security sectors.
