On April 24, Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Oleksii Chernyshov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Ukraine Igor Sokol.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of preparation for the Third Forum of the Regions of Ukraine and Belarus under the auspices of the Presidents of the two countries.
Oleksii Chernyshov assured that despite the quarantine restrictions, the Ukrainian side is preparing for the Third Forum of the Regions, to be held on October 1-2, 2020 in Grodno, Belarus.
The Minister noted that Ukraine appreciates long-standing fruitful cooperation with the Republic of Belarus, in particular, on issues of interregional and cross-border cooperation. He thanked the Belarusian side for directing the Concept of preparation to the Forum of Regions for consideration and assured that the composition of the Ukrainian part of the Organizing Committee would be approved shortly.
Moreover, the meeting’s participants discussed the possibility of holding the 2nd meeting of the Ukrainian-Belarusian Working Group on Interregional and Cross-Border Cooperation in Grodno on 4-5 June.
"Up to now, quarantine has been extended in Ukraine until May 11, after which the country will gradually start relaxing restrictions. Hence, we can schedule meetings online for June," Oleksii Chernyshov offered.
In his turn, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sokol stressed that their party would consider any variant of cooperation. "We need to proceed by stages and take into account the fact that the 2nd meeting of the Working Group is one of the stages of preparation for the Third Forum of the Regions," the Ambassador stressed.
