  • Ukraine is committed to development of E-40 waterway

    A key issue in the development of river transportation and logistics is Ukraine's active participation in the European initiative to restore the E-40 waterway. This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii during a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Marine Economy and Inland Navigation of the Republic of Poland Marek Gróbarczyk. The meeting was held today, November 25, 2019, within the framework of a working visit of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine to London.

    Vladyslav Kryklii noted that Ukraine had embarked on the preparing for the restoration of the E-40 waterway and the development of this route - dredging activities are underway, and work has already begun to modernize and repair the floodgates of the Dnipro Cascade.

    The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine initiates an international conference on transport and logistics in inland navigation with the participation of the Netherlands, Poland and Belarus, international financial institutions and other potential partners. The event is aimed to promote the development of the E-40 international waterway with the participation of representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of participating countries, interested business circles, environmentalists, members of the public, etc. and identify areas of engagement in this project. The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine invited his Polish counterpart to support this initiative and to participate in the conference.

    Vladyslav Kryklii also stated that Ukraine is actively cooperating with the European Commission and international companies in order to develop a clear mechanism for harmonizing the legislative framework in the inland navigation sector. Ukraine is interested in collaborating and sharing experience with Poland, in particular with a view to improving the training and certification of seafarers in accordance with international requirements and standards.
